The Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS 18001) Standard has been implemented providing a recognizable occupational health and safety management system against which the management systems have been assessed and certified. (Certificate received in July 2013.)
Statistics show that about 80% of all occupational incidents have their origin in the human factor. Knowing this, UMS is committed to achieving and demonstrating occupational health and safety (OH&S) performance by managing OH&S risks, consistent with the OH&S policy and objectives. UMS performs regular reviews and audits to assess its OH&S performance, which is conducted within a structured management system, integrated within the organization.
Knowledge about, and identification of hazards relating to its operations and work environment, is a priority task for the company and its managers. The objective is to neutralize/reduce risks to a manageable level. OHSAS 18001 is such a management tool and is compatible with the ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental), both certified management systems.
